Your Shoes Are Destroying Your Body
If you look at the feet of babies and that of our ancestors, you’ll notice that they functioned like tripods, with three points of contact with the ground. This is how our feet are naturally designed.
Modern day shoes, with their thick soles, elevated heels and narrow toe boxes, have cramped our feet and altered the way we walk and balance ourselves.
This is detrimental to foot health because it restricts the natural movement of the foot, which can lead to imbalances and weakness in the muscles and ligaments.
The Three Major Problems With Modern Day Shoes
Your feet are the foundation that supports your entire body. When your feet are unable to support your body optimally, it can lead to a variety of issues, including posture problems, back pain, and foot injuries. 1. Narrow Toe Boxes This cramps your toes together in an unnatural position which eventually leads to bunions for some people. You lose your natural tripod support and instead balance your body like a two-wheeled bicycle, constantly trying to stay upright.
2. Elevated Heels Elevated heels put your body into an imbalanced position (see image above) where your body tilts forward. This puts the rest of your body out of alignment and can result in posture and spinal issues or even back pain. 3. Thick Soles Many people believe the cushioning in shoes help support their feet when walking or running. Your body and muscles work in a way known as “use it or lose it”. If your shoes are doing all the shock absorption every time your feet come into contact with the ground then what’s the purpose of all the muscles, tendons and joints in your feet and ankles? This leads to fragile ankles, feet and ligaments that are prone to injury since these muscles and joints aren’t being used.
The Solution: Barefoot Shoes
Barefoot shoes are a type of minimalist footwear that simulates the experience of being barefoot while still providing protection and support. Traits of barefoot shoes:
- Wide toe box so your toes can spread
- Zero drop to improve your posture
- Thin sole for instant ground feedback
These shoes have become increasingly popular in recent years due to their many benefits for foot health and overall well-being by helping us restore our feet to their natural state. They have thin soles, wide toe boxes, and flexible materials that allow the foot to move and flex as it was meant to do. This leads to stronger feet, better posture, and a reduced risk of foot injuries.

Barefoot shoes offer a unique and valuable alternative to traditional footwear. Before you try out barefoot footwear, you should be aware that there’s typically an adjustment period. Your feet have likely been accustomed to cramped, thick soled shoes with an elevated heel for many years of your life. Switching over to barefoot shoes will take some time for your feet to adjust to the new experience. You’ll be re-learning how to walk naturally again - give it time and take it one step at a time.
