Three Harmful Substances Commonly Added to Foods
There are three categories of food substances that are typically added to which most people are unaware of:
- Food Additives
- Artificial Colors and Flavoring
- Preservatives
The next time youβre out shopping for foods or snacks, read the ingredients. If you do see any of the below substances, you might want to think twice before consuming. These substances are harmful to your gut health and overall well-being.
1. Food Additives:
Avoid any foods which contain codes in itβs ingredient list that start with INS, E, F. Examples: INS 330, E100, F1272
2. Artificial Colors and Flavor:
On product labels, these typically start with a color followed by a number. Examples: Red 40, Blue 1, Yellow 5
3. Preservatives:
These are often added to processed foods to extend their shelf life. Look for preservatives like:
- BHA
- BHT
- TBHQ
- Sodium nitrite
- Sodium benzoate
